Our team includes partnerships with more than 300 pro bono attorneys from over 70 law firms in the DC metropolitan area. New cases arrive every day.
Children’s Law Center is well recognized for the quality of our intakes, thoroughness of our trainings, availability of on-line resources and responsiveness of our attorney mentors.
Pro bono lawyers can represent foster parents or relatives in adoption, guardian and custody cases or serve as a guardian ad litem to a child in a custody case.
Pro bono cases usually require a commitment of 40 to 80 hours per year, with workload often consolidated at the beginning and the end of a case, when client counseling and investigation and trial preparation are most intense. While cases may exhibit similar themes, each pro bono case referred by CLC is unique. The pro bono experience, workload and schedule are dependent on each individual client’s needs and the circumstances.
The best way to get involved is to attend a ½ day training, where you will receive the basic information you need to get started.

“I’ve done pro bono work referred by Children’s Law Center for over five years now. To other lawyers thinking of doing pro bono work for CLC, I would encourage them with everything I have to take referrals. And I would tell them about their obligation to be a positive influence on the community- this is a great way to do that.”
