2022-23 Oversight Testimony: Department of Buildings

Children’s Law Center Director of Special Legal Projects Kathy Zeisel testified before the DC Council’s Committee of the Whole regarding the Department of Buildings. Last year, the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) was split into the Department of Buildings (DOB) and the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP). In her testimony, Kathy re-emphasized the importance of building an agency that is meaningfully different than its predecessor. She also stressed the need for data-sharing and coordination between agencies that deal with similar and overlapping housing issues in order to enable the kind of proactive inspections and enforcement that maximize impact on DC residents’ health and safety.
