Parents and guardians of children with disabilities living in the District of Columbia, along with The Arc of the United States, filed a class action lawsuit on March 7, 2024 against DC’s Office of the State Superintendent of Education for failing to provide safe, reliable and effective transportation to and from schools for children with disabilities, thereby denying students equal access to their education and unnecessarily segregating them from their peers.

My son loves school and wants to attend school but cannot do so regularly because of the District’s failure to provide reliable and timely transportation. His grades in his afternoon classes are higher than his morning classes, often because his morning bus is late.

– Ms. Joann McCray, mom of 12 year-old boy

Has your child been impacted by DC bus transportation issues?

One day – nearly two years after my sister died, my nephew was dropped off at his deceased mother’s home.

– Ms. Robertson, guardian and aunt of 11 year-old boy

Because he consistently arrived home late, he would miss critical applied behavior analysis and occupational therapist services that were ordered by his doctor.

– Sra. Guerrero, mother of 14 year-old boy
