FY22 Budget Testimony: CFSA
Children’s Law Center Policy Director Sharra E. Greer and Senior Policy Attorney Tami Weerasingha-Cote testified about DC’s Child & Family Services Agency (CFSA) before the DC Council’s Committee on Human Services. Tami praised Mayor Bowser and CFSA’s investments in key prevention services, including Family Success Centers and Caregiver Subsidy Programs, that keep families together and children out of the foster care system. Recognizing that CFSA alone cannot meet all the needs of DC’s foster kids, Sharra urged the Committee to ensure the Office of the Ombudsperson for Children is fully funded in the District’s FY22 budget by committing $800,000 in local recurring dollars. We strongly believe the Office of the Ombudsperson for Children will play a significant role in helping to meet these needs and facilitate interagency cooperation between CFSA and its sister DC agencies.
