Testimony: Department of Health Oversight (FY16)
Executive Director Judith Sandalow testified before the DC Council’s Committee on Health and Human Services regarding the DC Department of Health’s (DOH) FY 2015 performance. In her testimony, she focused on two interventions that are vital to meeting the needs of children here in the District: Mental health services for children in schools and home visiting programming for parents of young children.
Judith shared our organization’s excitement regarding DOH’s collaboration with other District agencies and advocates to streamline their efforts in providing school-based mental health services in the District. Regarding the District’s Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program, however, she expressed deep concern at the potential sizeable reduction in the evidence-based program’s slots set to accompany the expiration of the federal MIECHV Competitive Grant at the end of fiscal year 2016.
