The Washington Post Magazine: As Pandemic Aid Ends, Struggling Families Face a Housing Nightmare

Nearly 1,000 families will be terminated from the rapid rehousing program over the next six months as pandemic aid comes to an end. For clients, Holly Williams and Dayshi Green – they and their children may become homeless.

Children’s Law Center was already working with both families to resolve unhealthy housing issues when Ms. Williams and Ms. Green each learned they might lose their housing benefits. Now we’re appealing those terminations while still fighting to get their housing conditions fixed.

Reporter Morgan Baskin shared their experiences in The Washington Post Magazine and interviewed Children’s Law Center attorney Elizabeth Bowker to explain more on the challenges the Williams’ family is facing:

“There was a lot wrong with the house,” Elizabeth Bowker, another lawyer on Williams’s case, told me. “And so I think that that was [the landlord’s] way of just trying not to deal with that anymore.”
