Children’s Law Center Honors Jones Day, Mayer Brown, Locke Lord, Bates White Economic Consulting and Latham & Watkins for Generous Support for DC’s Kids

March 7, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC – Children’s Law Center announced today that its 2017 Champions for Children Award winners are Latham & Watkins LLP, Bates White Economic Consulting, Locke Lord LLP, Mayer Brown LLP and Jones Day. The award recognizes the generosity of firms with total 2017 annual giving to Children’s Law Center that exceeded that of their peers. More than 30 law firms and corporations participated in the 2017 Champions for Children campaign.

This year’s campaign raised $1.1 million, which helps Children’s Law Center reach more than 5,000 children and families each year.

And now a little more about our winners!

Latham & Watkins LLP

Latham & Watkins is Children’s Law Center’s winner in the High Flier category, which recognizes a law firm that exemplifies a deep commitment to bettering the lives of children by engaging past donors, connecting new supporters and providing a stellar firm gift to Children’s Law Center. Latham personifies this – giving their work, wisdom and wealth in support of DC’s kids.

Bates White Economic Consulting

Bates White Economic Consulting is Children’s Law Center’s inaugural Corporate Champion. Bates White and Children’s Law Center have worked together for more than a decade, delivering positive results for DC’s most vulnerable children and families.

Locke Lord LLP

Locke Lord is Children’s Law Center’s champion among firms with 1-99 attorneys in the DC office. The firm’s continued, generous support helps ensure that Children’s Law Center’s clients have a solid foundation of family, health and education.

Mayer Brown LLP

Mayer Brown is Children’s Law Center’s champion among firms with 100-249 attorneys in the DC office. Dedicating time, resources and talent, the Mayer Brown team is committed to helping children secure the education they need to thrive, as well as improving outcomes for kids.

Jones Day

Jones Day is Children’s Law Center’s champion among firms with 250+ attorneys in the DC office. Through its foundation, the firm supports Children’s Law Center’s medical-legal partnership work. Its attorneys, support staff and the firm itself share Children’s Law Center’s commitment to education and safe, affordable housing.

All five recipients are longtime, generous donors to Children’s Law Center – DC’s largest nonprofit legal services provider, which fights so every child in DC can grow up with a loving family, good health and a quality education.

“This last year reinforced what I’ve always known – we are stronger when we work together,” CLC Executive Director Judith Sandalow said. “In 2017, we were able to help more than 5,000 children and families, and we couldn’t have done so without each of these partners. Their generosity empowers us to advocate for good health, quality education and loving families for DC kids.”

The Champions for Children annual fundraising competition is already off to a great start in 2018.

About Children’s Law Center

Children’s Law Center fights so every child in DC can grow up with a loving family, good health and a quality education. Judges, pediatricians and families turn to us to advocate for children who are abused or neglected, who aren’t learning in school, or who have health problems that can’t be solved by medicine alone. With more than 100 staff and hundreds of pro bono lawyers, we reach 1 out of every 9 children in DC’s poorest neighborhoods – more than 5,000 children and families each year. And, we multiply this impact by advocating for city-wide solutions that benefit all children. Learn more at childrenslawcenter.org.
