The National Law Journal: Reviewing DC’s Family Court After 10 Years
Ten years after the Family Court Act went into effect, Zoe Tillman of the National Law Journal looks at DC’s Family Court and its progress. Children’s Law Center executive director Judith Sandalow is quoted.
In addition to some faster processes and the “one family, one judge” principle, Sandalow noted that in the last decade practicing in Family Court has allowed judges and lawyers to become more knowledgeable about family law, leading to a philosophical shift that leads them to look behind behaviors to the root causes and look for the deeper reason families are in court. With this structure, “judges and lawyers pay more attention to the disease than the symptom,” Sandalow said.
