WAMU: Review Of Relisha Rudd’s Disappearance Raises Questions On Training, Reporting

September 9, 2014

WAMU’s Martin Austermuhle takes a hard look at the Mayor Gray administration’s report on the disappearance of Relisha Rudd. The report absolved the city of responsibility for the eight-year-old’s disappearance from the DC General homeless shelter in March, stating that the city did everything in its power for her.

The article cites several areas where the city could have done more to serve Relisha Rudd and her family, but failed to do so. Austermuhle interviewed several different advocates for the piece, including Children’s Law Center Executive Director Judith Sandalow. After talking to the advocates, WAMU found agreement about “the largest issue left pending for D.C.: to find alternatives to D.C. General and close the shelter.”
