The Washington Post: In D.C. public schools, advocacy group finds high rates of suspension

A Washington Post story by education reporter Emma Brown highlights a new report from the Every Student Every Day coalition, which includes Children’s Law Center, and includes comments from executive director Judith Sandalow.

The report, authored by DC Lawyers for Youth, another member of the coalition, seeks to make suspensions and expulsions part of the ongoing conversation in the District about students missing school due to truancy. 

“Way too many children are missing school because they’ve been suspended or expelled, often for minor, nonviolent issues which could easily be dealt with,” Sandalow told the Post.
