The Washington Post: District to start ‘conversation’ about special ed

In the D.C. Schools Insider blog of The Washington Post, Children’s Law Center testimony by executive director Judith Sandalow informs an upcoming “conversation” on special education. The Office of the State Superintendent of Education, an agency that oversees all schools – public and charter – in the District, has hired a research firm to review the quality of DC’s special education programs.

In testimony before the DC Council February 8, Sandalow noted that the District’s goal of bringing back special needs students currently going to school in other jurisdictions is admirable. But investment in DC schools to build capacity and improve quality programs is necessary first.
