Mariatu Okonofua is a Boston College Law School Public Service Legal Policy Fellow. She joins the Policy team in working to support Children’s Law Center’s policy initiatives including safe and healthy housing, child welfare, children’s mental health, and special education. She also works with the Policy team and other staff members in direct services programs in order to implement strategies for improving the laws, policies and programs which affect Children’s Law Center’s client community. As a law student, Mariatu externed as a Policy Clerk with Children’s Law Center, served as a Rappaport Law and Public Policy Fellow with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, interned with the EdLaw Project of the Youth Advocacy Foundation, and served as an SJC Rule 3.03 Student Attorney with the Boston College Law School Juvenile Rights Advocacy Program Clinic. Before beginning law school, Mariatu worked in Alamance County, North Carolina as a Kenan Community Impact Fellow with Alamance Achieves where she advocated for kindergarten readiness and third grade literacy initiatives within the county.
