Tami Weerasingha-Cote
Tami is a Supervising Attorney with the Policy Team at Children’s Law Center. Tami works with CLC attorneys, advocacy partners, DC government agencies, the DC Council, and other stakeholders to seek solutions to systemic problems that affect DC’s children and families. Tami’s portfolio includes addressing issues related to DC’s child welfare system, behavioral health system for children and families, and public education. Tami also oversees CLC’s participation in class-action lawsuits and impact litigation. Prior to joining Children’s Law Center, Tami was a Senior Associate at Sidley Austin, LLP, where she worked on complex commercial litigation matters and government enforcement actions. While in private practice, Tami undertook a number of pro bono matters including several custody cases with the Children’s Law Center, asylum cases, impact litigation on behalf of individuals with Temporary Protect Status (TPS), and civil rights litigation. Tami clerked for the Hon. Roy McLeese III of the D.C. Court of Appeals. She also researched domestic violence legislation in Sri Lanka as a Fulbright Scholar prior to attending Law School.
