2024-25 Performance Oversight Testimony: Department of Buildings

Policy Attorney Makenna Osborn testified before the District of Columbia Council at the performance oversight hearing for the Department of Buildings (DOB).

We believe that the DOB has made notable improvements over previously endowed housing agencies (Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs), it is not yet fulfilling the vision the Council had at its creation. Our testimony 1) highlights areas where DOB has improved implementation of the housing code over the past year and 2) identify how DOB can further improve its performance through better inspections and more effective enforcement. Children’s Law Center welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with the Council and DOB to implement these improvements.
