FY22 Budget Testimony: DHS

June 14, 2021

Children’s Law Center Senior Policy Attorney Elizabeth Oquendo testified before the DC Council’s Committee on Human Services about the Department of Human Services, asking the Committee to invest in programs and services that ensure DC families can stay stably housed as the pandemic ends. We strongly urge the Committee and larger Council to stem the oncoming tide of evictions post-public health emergency by investing some of the large influx of federal funds in programs that actually work to reduce homelessness, as well as modifying the Rapid Rehousing program, funding the Eviction Rental Assistance Program and changing the Alliance recertification process to be more effective.
