FY22 Budget Testimony: Education Agencies
Children’s Law Center Policy Director Sharra E. Greer testified before the DC Council’s Committee of the Whole about the need to prioritize supports and services that students need to equitably access public education in the next school year. To close the opportunity gap and meet the needs of DC’s low-income students, Black and Brown students and students with disabilities, we urge the Council reject a return to “normal” and instead use the budget to build an education sector that is stronger and more equitable than what existed before the pandemic. This includes prioritizing digital equity; investing in behavioral health supports for students; funding investments that support a safe and effective learning environment; and divesting from MPD’s School Safety Division.
