FY26 Budget Testimony: District of Columbia Housing Authority

May 29, 2025

Policy Attorney Makenna Osborn testified before the Committee on Housing at the FY26 Budget Oversight Hearing for the District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA).

Ensuring DCHA has the resources it needs to connect as many families as possible with long-term vouchers and maintain safe and healthy public housing is top priority. Our testimony will identify areas in DCHA’s budget where the Committee can prioritize protecting and deepening funding for 1) locally funded housing vouchers to meet the basic housing needs of DC families with low incomes and 2) repairs and maintenance of the District’s public housing stock.

It’s Time for Healthier and Safer Housing for all DC Residents

When a child lives in unhealthy housing, they are more likely to end up in the ER because their poor housing conditions trigger health issues like asthma. That’s why Children’s Law Center partners with organizations across the city to advocate for healthier housing so that all DC children have the safe housing they need to live healthy lives.
