FY22 Oversight Testimony: Department of Energy and Environment

January 25, 2022

Children’s Law Center Senior Supervising Attorney Kathy Zeisel testified before the DC Council’s Committee on Transportation and the Environment about the Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE), noting the progress the agency has made fighting mold and lead-based paint hazards. At Children’s Law Center, we know that poor housing conditions can pose a serious risk to a child’s health, and no amount of lead exposure is safe for a child. That’s why Kathy noted that work still needs to be done to fully address lead dangers DC kids face, and urged the Council to advance the remaining provisions of the Lead Hazard Prevention & Elimination Act needed to strengthen DC’s lead law.
