FY23 Budget Testimony: Child and Family Services Agency

March 23, 2022

Children’s Law Center Supervising Policy Attorney Tami Weerasingha-Cote testified before the Committee on Human Services at the Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA)’s budget hearing. As Tami noted in her testimony, while we are pleased that the Mayor’s proposed FY23 budget makes additional investments in placement and permanency, we are shocked and dismayed that it also reduces funding to critical programs serving DC children and families — most importantly, the Office of the Ombudsperson for Children. Last year, the DC Council created and funded the Office, demonstrating its commitment when it overrode the Mayor’s veto. We urge the Council to redouble its commitment by ensuring that the final FY23 budget fully restores funding for the Office of the Ombudsperson for Children.
