2022-23 Oversight Testimony: Department of Human Services
Children’s Law Center Policy Attorney Makenna Osborn testified before the DC Council’s Committee on Housing about the Department of Human Services (DHS). She called on the agency to address appalling conditions in homes subsidized by the Rapid Rehousing program – at minimum not authorizing leases with landlords who have a track record of not remedying poor housing conditions. She also pointed out significant gaps in DHS’s administration of Targeted Affordable Housing and Permanent Supportive Housing vouchers, which are an essential resource for ensuring our low-income neighbors can break cycles of eviction and homelessness.
