Testimony: Chancellor of the District of Columbia Public Schools Antwan Wilson Confirmation Resolution of 2016
On Dec. 8, Children’s Law Center Executive Director Judith Sandalow testified before the DC Council Committee on Education regarding the mayor’s nomination of Antwan Wilson as DC Public Schools Chancellor.
In her testimony, Sandalow said that while Children’s Law Center has a longstanding policy of not taking formal positions on mayoral appointments, it was important the Chancellor understand the problems and opportunities facing students within DCPS schools. Her testimony focused on improving outcomes for students with disabilities and students who speak English as a second language, addressing the impact of trauma on children’s learning, improving school climate and culture, and increasing cross-sector collaboration.
