FY15 Budget Testimony: Department of the Environment

Children’s Law Center testified at an April 11 oversight hearing on the Department of the Environment (DDOE) budget. More information about the hearing is available on the Council website.

Kathy Zeisel, a Senior Supervising Attorney at Children’s Law Center, testified in support of the DDOE’s Healthy Homes program and opposed the Mayor’s proposed budget cuts that would undercut this program. Children’s Law Center has worked with Healthy Homes through our medical-legal partnerships with Children’s National Health System and Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Health.

DDOE’s Healthy Homes program brings public health experts into the homes of some of the most vulnerable children in DC to address serious housing conditions that impact the child’s health. After homes are assessed for threats such as mold, lead, and carbon monoxide by trained inspectors, the District works with property ownsers to reduce risks and provide an interim care program.
