Testimony: Office of State Superintendent of Education Oversight (FY11)
Children’s Law Center Policy Director Sharra Greer testified before the DC Council Committee of the Whole February 25, 2011 regarding the performance of the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE).
While noting that OSSE has made substantial progress towards improving DC’s education system and praising its openness to community feedback and well-organized policy making progress, Ms. Greer cited four ways in which OSSE could improve its performance:
- Keep working with DCPS and charter schools to develop a range of robust and effective special education programs within the public school system
- Ensure that DC’s special education transportation system functions adequately
- Bolster the Early Intervention Program (EIP) for infants and toddlers
- Maintain a fully staffed policy team
