Testimony: Reopening DCPS and DCPCS for School Year 2021-22

September 21, 2021

Children’s Law Center Policy Director Sharra E. Greer testified before the DC Council’s Committee of the Whole to urge education sector leaders to shift from a reactive posture to one that prepares for the predictable challenges of in-person learning — challenges which are already impacting DC students’ access to education. It is essential that DC Public Schools (DCPS) and DC Public Charter Schools (DCPCS) develop plans and protocols for how they will address the needs of two groups of vulnerable students: students with disabilities who are long overdue their entitled services and students who were exposed to COVID-19 in schools and are now in quarantine.

We call on the Committee of the Whole to convene a public hearing regarding the needs of vulnerable student populations including, but not limited to, students with disabilities, students in the care of DC and at-risk students.
