Testimony: Roundtable on the District’s COVID-19 Vaccination Process
Children’s Law Center Policy Director Sharra E. Greer submitted testimony for the DC Council’s Roundtable on the District’s COVID-19 Vaccination Process to share our recommendations on ways DC Health can improve its vaccination efforts, particularly with an eye to ensuring equity. At CLC, we have seen the virus’s impact on DC families and children, as well as the disproportionate impact it has had on low-income communities and people of color, exacerbating longstanding societal inequities.
We commend DC Health for developing a vaccination plan in line with the framework established by the National Academy of Medicine. We support the goal of the plan to reduce severe morbidity and mortality and negative societal impact due to the spread of COVID-19. However, we believe DC Health needs to improve its efforts to ensure the equitable distribution of the vaccine to low income and black and brown communities in the District; ensure the transparency of its vaccination program; and prioritize the allocation of vaccines to foster-care workers.
