Testimony: School Police Incident Oversight and Accountability Amendment Act of 2021 and Youth Rights Amendment Act of 2021
Children’s Law Center Policy Attorney Danielle Robinette testified before the DC Council’s Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety on two important bills that impact the safety and well-being of DC youth: the School Police Incident Oversight and Accountability Amendment Act of 2021 and the Youth Rights Amendment Act of 2021.
Danielle shared our support of the School Police Incident Oversight and Accountability Amendment Act because it will provide the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and the Council detailed information needed to conduct effect oversight of police activity in schools, as well as some level of increased transparency. We also support the Youth Rights Amendment Act because it requires MPD to use developmentally appropriate policing tactics when interacting with young people.
