2023 Helping Children Soar Benefit
On September 28th, we gathered at District Winery on the Anacostia waterfront for our annual Benefit!
At our Helping Children Soar Benefit, we celebrated the Children’s Law Center community.
This community – from our staff and the parents and youth we work with to advocacy partners, policymakers, pro bono lawyers and donors – makes so much change possible.
That change has profound ripple effects. If you were able to join us at the Benefit, you heard from Shirelle Kouyate. We first met her when she was advocating for her son, whose school failed to meet his special education needs, often making him sit apart from the other students.
With help from Children’s Law Center, Shirelle transferred her son to a new school that met his needs and helped him thrive. That gave her the ability to quit her night job and look for one during the day – and, luckily for us, she chose to join Children’s Law Center.
