Testimony: Public Hearing on Chronic Absenteeism & Truancy
Executive Director Judith Sandalow and Senior Policy Attorney Danielle Robinette testified at the Committee of the Whole’s public hearing on Chronic Absenteeism and Truancy.
Their joint testimony reflects on the challenges the District has faced in overcoming absenteeism and the lack of interagency collaboration to easily connect students to supportive programming. We urge the Council to focus on better coordination among the District agencies that implement these supportive tools rather than doubling down on ineffective referrals to law enforcement and child welfare.
