Revised May 2018. This practice kit seeks to empower practitioners to advocate effectively for children with mental health needs. It provides general information on trauma, psychiatric diagnoses and medication, evidence-based practices and other modes of mental health service delivery. Additionally, the kit offers an overview of the public mental health system in DC, with information about providers and services. Finally, the kit provides practitioners with federal and local statutory and regulatory authority regarding privacy, informed consent, mental health consumers’ rights, psychiatric residential treatment facilities, psychiatric hospitalization and more.
